Mathematics and Computer Science Technology Scholarships

The Mathematics and Computer Science Technology (MACSTECH) Scholarship Program provides scholarships for financially eligible, academically talented students majoring in Computer Science and/or Mathematics for Information Systems at Dakota State University (DSU) in Madison, South Dakota. Funding for the program has been provided by the National Science Foundation through a Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarships Program (CSEMS) grant awarded to DSU.

The program is open to both currently enrolled students, transfer students,  and high school students applying for admission to Dakota State University. To be eligible for a MACSTECH Scholarship, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Show academic potential (minimum college GPA of 2.75);
     
  • Have demonstrated financial need, as defined for undergraduate students by the US Department of Education rules for Federal financial aid;
     
  • Enrolled as a full-time student in Mathematics and/or Computer Science baccalaureate degree program or qualified for and in the process of being accepted for admission to Dakota State University to major in in one of those degree programs as a full-time student;
     
  • Have completed, be presently enrolled in or pre-registered for Math 123 (Calculus I);
     
  • A United States citizen, refugee alien, or permanent resident alien at the time of application

Scholarships up to $2000 per year (depending on financial eligibility) will be awarded to successful applicants majoring in either Computer Science or Mathematics for Information Systems.  Junior or Senior level students who are double majors in both disciplines and are making satisfactory academic progress towards the completion of both programs will be eligible for scholarships up to $3125 per year.  Applications will be reviewed on a competitive basis and successful applications we be admitted into the MACSTECH Scholarship program at DSU.  Based on performance, these scholarships may be renewed each semester by the institution through the duration of the grant (Fall Semester 2007).

In addition to the financial award, MACSTECH Scholars will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities aimed at helping the scholar attain his/her academic potential. Scholars in the program will have access to specialized tutoring, monthly enrichment activities, opportunities to work with faculty on research projects, opportunities for summer internships and contacts with business and industry.
