Kinesthetic/Contractions

Title: Matching

Make up cards with contractions on them and then make up cards that have the full words on them like can not for can't. They will then play a matching game to match up the contractions with the full words. You could then to make it harder just have them add like the n't on words instead of having the can not words.

Title: Contractions

Idea: Since Kinesthetic is hands on learning, I thought this might work.

Start with having each letter of the alphabet on a separate 8 by 10 sheet of paper. Also need one with an apostrophe. Say two words, the students with those letters then come to the front. Then the apostrophe student will then combine the two to form a contraction, the rest of the class can help if needed. Ex: Two words Can and not then the apostrophe combine them and stands in the correct position. Final word Can't. Repeat with new words and a new student as the apostrophe.

Title: Be a Contraction
Idea: Have your students be the letters.  You can have them lay on the floor writing out the word cannot (for example) with their bodies, and then have another student be the apostrophe. They have the power to change the word to cannot to can't. Then have the rest of the class say the new words, and then have them make the next word.
