Body Words

Students will get into groups and go to their assigned areas in the classroom. Here they look at a list of sight words. Then work together as a group to form their bodies into different sight words.

Title: Tic Tac Toe

Idea: You can play a game of tic tac toe using the squares on the floor as the spots. Have sight words taped down and have the students draw words and tape them to their shirts. Have them split into 2 teams. The first team to get three in row wins!

Title: Popcorn for Captain Joey

Idea: Given Flash Cards with Sight Words, Construction Paper, Pencil, Scissors, and Classroom. Have the students draw and cut out one set of their footprints. Clear off the floor of the classroom. Have the students line up in the back of the classroom. Teacher flashes a sight-word. First to popcorn-jump up and shout out the correct word gets to move their footprints one step forward in order to sneak up on Captain Joey. First across the room is the winner.

Title: Jump Words


Idea: The children will be given several sight words that they should know. Words such as, am, be, can, he, she, and so on. These word will be placed in a row at the front of the room. Then the child is given a word aloud by the teacher, at this point the child jumps on the word, on the sheet of paper, on the floor. This activity gets the children to interact with the learning of site words by letting them physically jump on the word that is called.

Title: Sight Word Twister
Idea: Make a twister chart with letters. The students will use their hands and feet to find the letters on the chart to spell a sight word. Make sure to put letters on the chart that spell out the sight words the children are working on.
