Determination of Course Grade

Grading Scale

There is a total of 1000 points possible in the course.

	900 - 1000 points = A
	800 - 899 	  = B
	700 - 799 	  = C
	600 - 699 	  = D
	  0 - 599 	  = F

Standard Weighting of Parts of the Course

	Exams: sum of all four x 1.75 = 700 points
	Assignments 				=  140
	$tock Market Contest (Notes 1 and 3) 	=    0
	Futures Market Contest (Notes 2 and 3) 	=    0
	Final exam: 				=  160
					 Total 	= 1000 points

The distribution of points between the exams, assignments, and the final exam may be changed during the semester. However, the weight of any task already completed will not be changed.

Additional Information

1. All students in the course may participate in the DSU Spring 2002 $tock Market Contest. Any student placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the contest within the class will earn an additional 25, 10, or 5 points respectively toward his or her total points. This contest will start January 22, 2002 and run for 40 trading days.

2. All students in the course may also participate in the DSU Spring 2002 Futures Market Contest. Any student placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the contest within the class will earn an additional 25, 10, or 5 points respectively toward his or her total points. This contest will start about half way through the semester and run for 20 trading days.

3. You cannot earn points for both of the above contests. If you would have earned points in both contests, you will be awarded the higher points from either contest. You will then be removed from the ranking of the other contest within the class to determine the distribution of points in that contest within the class.

4. There are no make-up exams.

5. If you miss an exam, the percent performance on that section of the final exam will substitute for the exam grade missed.

6. You may drop up to two exam grades. You must tell me (on a form provided by me) before the final exam, if you wish to drop any exam grades, and which exam grades you wish to drop, if you do not simply want to drop the lowest exam grades. The percent performance on the corresponding sections of the final exam will then substitute for the dropped exam grade. The purpose of this provision is to allow you a second chance to demonstrate mastery of the material in the unit or to serve as a make-up exam for those who actually miss an exam for whatever reason.

7. The final exam is comprehensive, and every unit is covered equally on the exam. Each unit is clearly identified on the final exam. Each unit on the final exam is about half as long as the regular hourly exam on that unit.

8. You may also use up to all four exam grades to substitute for the percent performance on the corresponding section on the final exam. You must tell me (on a form provided by me) before the final exam which, if any, exam grade you wish to substitute for sections on the final exam. You will then not complete that section on the final exam. If you forward all four exam grades to the final exam, you will not take the final exam. Your final exam grade will be determined entirely by the hourly exam grades. If you do not take the final exam and do not tell me otherwise, I will assume you mean to forward all four regular exam grades to the final exam. This provision is meant to encourage you to do as well as you can on the regular hourly exams.

9. Options 6 and 8 above are independent of each other. You may drop exam grades as well as forward others or take only one option or neither.

10. Designated questions on exams as well as any written reports must be answered in complete sentences in Standard English and the specialized language of the consumer and business credit and collection field. You must sound like you know what you are talking about.
