The final exam is at 10:10 am on Wednesday, May 8th, 2002. The final
is comprehensive but there are many options available. Note that
asterisks on the study guide do not apply to the final exam because
the final exam is so much shorter. Any objective from the study guide
could be on the final exam, not just questions from previous exams.
May 3, 2002 2:10 pm
I graded the fourth exam. You may pick yours up in my office.

to the final exam. I would appreciate your filling out the Final Exam
Options Form as soon as you can.

up before the end of the semester (maybe none). If you cannot come on the
tour or simply don't want to come, I will make up some other project for you
to do in lieu of the WFFB tour.
If you will miss other classes on that afternoon, I will give you a form to

Here are two more assignments for you.
            1. 10 points. Pick up a credit application at a store or bank and bring
it to class or drop them off in my office. We will look at
all of them in class after I make transparencies of them or at
least the pertinent sections of them. To avoid duplication,
let me know which store or bank you are going to try to
use and I will post it on this page. Deadline for getting the
applications in to me is next Tuesday, February 26. Avoid
credit card applications. For a bank get a credit application
for a home loan, home equity loan, auto loan, etc.
                          Student Store/Bank
                          Bob Becker Campbell Supply
                          Jeffrey Drexler J C Pennys
                          Tanya Houska Younkers
                          Tiffany Jensen First National Bank
                          Sarah Koob Wells Fargo Bank
                          Scott Olson
                          Kari Rentschler
Michael Rush NA Truck & Trailer
Kent Terveer 1st American Bank & Trust
                          Nathan Timmermans FM Bank
            2. 10 points Visit one of the sites below (tell me which one you want to
use so I can put your name down) and find information
on consumer protection regulations regarding credit. This
could take some digging. Be prepared to give the class a tour
of what you found on Monday, February 25.
                                                                      Student
Office of Comptroller of the Currency Sarah Koob
                          The Federal Reserve Scott Olson

                          MN state regulators* Kent Terveer
                          NE state regulators* Jeff Drexler
*You may have to use a search engine on the site. There may
be a consumer affairs department or it may fall under some
other category, like the banking commission. Let me know if
you are having trouble. You could also use a state other
                           than the three listed above.
February 14, 2002 12:18 am
I graded the first exam. You may pick up yours in my office. I will also
bring them to class on Wednesday. When looking at the grading note that a
series of dots, like ....., means that what you had was okay but should have
            mentioned something else as well.
February 8, 2002 3:23 pm
And speaking of student credit card solicitations: I asked people
in the administration and the university does not assist credit card
companies in any way to obtain student names. But it was pointed out
that it would not be difficult to obtain a student/staff directory
            if the company wanted one.

Class notes for all of Chapter 4 are now on the Web.
February 4, 2002 12:02 pm
I haven't had time yet to prepare the class notes for Chapter 5 or to
prepare study guide/objectives for chapters 4 and 5. So the first exam
will not be on Monday, Feb. 11 as scheduled. Perhaps Wednesday, Feb. 13.
We can always start the next unit while you are studying from the complete
set of objectives for the first unit.

January 27, 2002 8:30 pm
Your assignment for Wednesday (10 points) is to find a Web site concerning
credit cards. This will not be a bank site or VISA or MasterCard or other
such site but a site about credit cards for consumers and/or merchants. It
can't be a site already listed on the Credit Cards resources page
because the site you find will be added to the page. A good way to search
would be to use a search engine. When you find a site, e-mail me and I'll
look at it for approval. If it's a site someone else already located
and had approved by me, you'll have to keep looking. Be prepared to
give the class a short tour of the site on Wednesday.

The rest of the class notes for Chapter 3 are on the Web.

           See: http://money.cnn.com/2002/01/14/saving/v_credit_score/index.htm
for a video report on consumer credit scores.
Also, I will be looking to update the Web page on Personal Finance this
semester. So if you run across interesting sites, please let me know about
it. We will take a look at it in class if it's related to credit in
some way and I'll add it to the Web page.
January 15, 2002 11:39 pm
Class notes for Chapter 2 are on the Web.
January 12, 2002 4:50 pm
Your first assignment (10 points) will be a) to explore the Web site of an
assigned professional association or related agency and b) to give
the class a tour of the Web site and emphasize what the organization is,
what its function is, and what resources are available on the site.
The tour should be short, say, five-ten minutes. Many of the url's can be found
at the end of Chapter 2 of the textbook. Otherwise use a search engine.
The tours will be given on Wednesday, January 16, 2002.
