    • 1 small plastic cup of water

    • Clear plastic cup of water

    • Plastic spoon

    • Paper towel

    • Ice cube

  • Water in its three forms in different containers so they are not revealed

  • Metal pie plate

  • Ice

  • Water

  • Tea kettle

  • Hot plate

  • Mitt

  • “Lake” water (water with some dirt, twigs and leaves)

  • Each student team needs:

    • Instruction sheet

    • Plastic soda bottle cut in half

    • Cheesecloth

    • Newspaper

    • Mesh screening

    • Rubber bands

    • Fine gravel

    • Sand

    • Plastic jar with lid

    • Spoon

    • Soil, twigs and leaves
