Information on
Principles of Economics
Sites for Information on Principles of Economics AmosWEB - An extensive, if sometimes
whimsical, site illustrating various principles concepts. There is a collection of materials provided
by Professor Orley Amos, including online books, quizzes, a glossary of economics terms,
and an archive of articles from Amos' newspaper column. The DISMAL Scientist - Good source of current release information. It was an excellent resource of economic position papers on current issues--in fact it was too good. The now charge a $159 subscription, which is a little out of my budget for this course. Resources For Economists On The Internet - A guidebook for professional economists, this is a searchable set of "links" pages for use by economists. The list of sites includes national and international government organizations that provide economic data, economics working paper and journal sites, and home pages for professional organizations, societies and associations, et alia.
Cool Sites (Only an Economist Could Love) Universal Currency Converter - Convert one country's money to another to your heart's content! The current exchange rate is automatically used for the conversion. The National Debt (U.S. Treasury) - The national debt is the amount of debt that the Federal government has accumulated over the history of the United States. This site reports the amount to the penny on a daily basis. Economics Statistics Briefing Room (The White House) - This site offers (almost) current economic statistics. It's a convenient way of looking at economic information from a wide variety of U.S. government sources.
Economic Information Web Sites ECONOMAGIC - If you're looking for economic time series data, this you can probably get it at this site! It has links to many of the best sources of freely available economic statistics. You can get data on GDP, inflation, the money supply, international trade statistics and a whole host of other economic measures. It's a convenient way to track down information on many aspects of the economy. Economics Links - a list of important sites with economic content. WWW Resources For Finance - an excellent links page maintained by DSU Finance professor Jim Janke with access to a wide variety of business, economic and financial information. (Note: The WWW Resources button below takes you to this site.)
Other Internet Assignment Links http://stats.bls.gov/csxhome.htm - Bureau of Labor Statistics. http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2002/guide.html http://www.census.gov/ftp/pub/foreign-trade/www/ - US Census Bureau Foreign Trade Statistics. http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/income.html http://www.datamasters.com/ - Dowden & Company DataMasters Site.
The Lemonade Game - Here's a fun lemonade stand simulation I found (as a link from a DSU student's personal web site). The simulation lets you run a street corner nickel lemonade stand in a major U.S. city for 25 days. As always, the goal is to maximize your profits. (The best lemonade stand entrepreneurs made well over a thousand dollars!). Each day you determine the price of your lemonade, the number of cups of lemonade to sell and the amount you spend on advertising. But you have to live within your means--and you only have $5.00 to start with! To be successful, you will need to understand the concepts of supply & demand, fixed & variable costs, and even the price elasticity of demand and other microeconomic concepts. |
